Excursion destinations

in your Stubaital holidays

Even though the sun is shining most of the time here at the beautiful Stubaital, it sometimes happens that the sky in Mieders is cloudy and you are not in the mood for hiking or the like. And it would also be a shame if you did not have time to discover the many destinations around your holiday home at Hotel Serles.

The provincial capital of Innsbruck is just 15 minutes away from Mieders. Here you will find numerous shopping facilities, cafés and restaurants, museums and excursion destinations such as the Golden Roof or the Berg Isel ski jump. Leave your car at home, you can easily get to Innsbruck by public transport.

Due to the proximity to the neighboring countries of Italy, Germany and Switzerland, day trips across the borders are no problem. South Tyrol can even be reached within 30 minutes’ drive. In Tyrol, we recommend trips for the entire family to Kufstein with its fortress on a hill, where many events and concerts take place year-round. The world-famous Riedel glass manufactory is also located in Kufstein. Here, you can look over the shoulders of glass blowers and purchase precious glass products. On the way back to Stubai we recommend a detour to the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens. The artwork initiated by Andre Heller is home to underground cabinets of curiosities and a fascinating adventure playground with a garden. You can of course also purchase and marvel at accessories and jewelry made of the sparkling crystals.

Also on the way back from Kufstein, you can reach Rattenberg, Austria’s smallest and a particularly romantic town. The next stop is Schwaz, a picturesque town that is famous for its silver mine, a popular destination for family trips. The tunnels of the discontinued mine reach 800 meters into the ground. Exciting, interesting and funny at the same time!

Kramsach, in the Tyrolean “Unterland” area, takes you on a journey through the life of the farmers of the past centuries. The farmhouses were removed from their previous sites and rebuilt at the Museum of Tyrolean Farmhouses. Farmhouses from various regions in Tyrol as well as a magnificent landscape can be seen in Kramsach. You can also visit Austria’s funniest cemetery in Kramsach. Why? You have to find out for yourself!

And as usual at Hotel Serles: Simply ask us. We have recommendations for you every day. Karoline, Josef and Thomas Weichinger are happy to provide tips for the most beautiful destinations in Tyrol and its neighboring countries.

On the road in Tyrol

Where there are mountains, there are also passes. These especially attract motorcyclists, owners of classic cars and convertibles, but also everyone else who likes to admire the Tyrolean mountains from the road. Sharp turns, steep passages, challenging routes are the goals of bikers. Probably one of the most beautiful routes between North and South Tyrol goes from the Brenner Pass via Sterzing to the Jaufen Pass. From Penserjoch, continue to Timmelsjoch and Kühtai, and back again. No matter which vehicle you choose, this drive is more than impressive. Of course, you can combine the trip with several stops at restaurants for refreshments and at marked viewpoints to see the mountains even better.

The Stubaital, especially Mieders, is a starting point for fascinating motorcycle tours to Kühtai, Hahntennjoch, over the old Brenner road, the Jaufen Pass and of course the spectacular Dolomites mountain range.

Tyrol’s neighbors: Italy, Switzerland, Germany

Verona, with its impressive arena, is only a little over 2 hours’ drive away – the Brenner Autobahn is only 5 minutes from Mieders. Lake Garda can also be reached in a little under 3 hours by car. Brixen, Bolzano or Trent are further destinations if you are in the mood for some Italian atmosphere.

The festival city of Salzburg can be reached within 2 hours. Here, you can stroll around in the old town, visit Mozart’s birthplace or visit the “Haus der Natur” with the kids.

Those who still are not tired of excursions can pay our Swiss neighbors a visit or go to Munich for shopping, sightseeing or some weisswurst.

As you can see, the location of the Stubaital makes it possible for you to get to know four different countries in one vacation.
